Let us introduce ourselves!
This site is shared by a mother and daughter team, Pat and Sarah Sumpter.

Pat Sumpter

Arts, crafts, and other home skills have been Pat's lifetime
passion. She is currently offering handmade soap, and stationary.
She is also offering original crochets, as well as those of vintage
designs, including authentic Victorian! She, too, has more ideas
to be featured on the 'Back to Basics' site.

Pat has always had the urge to draw, paint, sculpt, knit, crochet,
spin, write, anything as long as it was creative. A good deal of
the things she does have been self-taught. She excelled in
creative writing, and in many art classes. While in high
school she did a little commercial art for a couple of
businesses in Boise, Idaho where she was born and grew up.

She married her husband, David, at the age of 20, and had
their first son, Phillip, three years later. When Phillip was
two the Mayor of the small town where they were living -
Stockton, Utah - asked Pat to paint a mural and help with
float designs for the town's bicentennial celebration. The
work was underway when David found employment in
S. Dakota and they had to move.

While living there, their second son Jacob, and daughter
Sarah, were born. And also, it was then that Pat's original
crochet designs were being featured on the covers of national
publications, including an annual 'Best of Crochet World'.

By the time Sarah was three, they relocated to Alaska where
Pat began designing, knitting, and selling sweaters and baby
sets among other things. She also made many clothes for her
family, as well as quilts, and artwork for their home.

After 14 years in Alaska the family has moved to David's
small farm in Oregon, where they  have cashmere goats,
donkeys, dogs, cats, and laying hens.  Pat and David now
have six grandchildren live as next door as neighbors.
And so it is, that between farm chores and kids' visits,
Pat runs a scroll saw, crochets, spins cashmere from their
goats, knits, and does other crafts in hopes people
will want to add her work to their collections

You can find Pat's items in Linens and Lace,
